The 265th Successor to St. Peter
Now that the official time for mourning the death of Pope John Paul II has passed, we look forward to what is a very exciting time in the Church’s history.
On Monday, April 18th, the College of Cardinals will meet in secrecy in the Sistine Chapel and begin the election process for our next pope. All eyes will be on the Vatican, anxiously awaiting the white smoke to pour out of the chimney of the Sistine Chapel and the bells in St. Peter’s to be rung.
What can we all do here in Stoughton? PRAY. The cardinals who vote for the new pope spend much time in deep prayer and seek guidance from the Holy Spirit. In these upcoming days, we must also pray that the Holy Spirit fill the minds and hearts of those charged with the huge task of electing our next Holy Father.
