Pope Benedict XVI Proclaims a Year For Priests
The Year of St. Paul comes to a close on June 29, 2009. Here at Stoughton Life Teen, through events like our "Unstoppable" retreat, we have learned much about St. Paul and have followed his example of conversion and faithfulness in the face of great adversity to become truly unstoppable. Although the year of St. Paul is ending, our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, already has plans for this next year! On June 19, 2009, on the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Pope Benedict XVI proclaimed this year to be a "Year for Priests."
Men called to the priesthood certainly play a major role in the life of the Church. They are called to make great sacrifices and to lead all of God's people towards holiness in a special way. We are thankful for all our priests, particularly for those priests who preside at our Life Teen Masses. We hope that this year will be one of stengthening and renewal for them. For our part, let us pray that our Blessed Mother, Mary the Mother of Jesus, and St. John Vianney, the Universal Patron of Priests will intercede for our holy men who have heard the call of God and serve the Church as ordained ministers. Let us also pray that more men might respond to God's call to be good and faithful priests following in the footsteps of Christ.
